Nursing bras 2 to 3
Breast pads (disposable or washable) x 2 packs
Nursing nightware (with easy front opening)
Muslin squares 6 to 12 (great for mopping up)
Might be useful
If your baby cries a lot and seems in pain after a feed, ask your GP or health visitor whether it's colic (a form of trapped wind) that might be helped by using a special bottles, such as Dr. Brown's. Anti-colic teats and infacol drops may also be helpful
Babies with cleft lip or palate may feed better from a medela secial needs feeder.
Weaning (from around 6 months)
When you introduce pureed food and baby rice, things will get really messy! Start with single foods. (such as pureed carrot), introduct one food at a time, and slowly build to lumpier purees and finger foods at 7-9 months. Never leave your feeding baby unattended.
You'll need
- Sleep bras x 3 (to keep pads in place at night)
Feeding support cushion (helps get baby in the correct position)- Breast pump (if you start expressing once feeding is established, dad can help feed baby too)
- Breast milk storage bags or bottles (milk can be frozen for up to 3 months)
- Nipple shields (help protect sore nipples)
- Lansinoh or Mothercare nipple cream
- Brest shells (to collect milk leaking from the non-feeding breast)
- Cooling gel breast pads
Breastfeeding chair
Bottle Feeding
- Useful for expressed milk, mixed feeding (breast and formula) and formula feeds.
You'll need
- Feeding bottles x 6
- Newborn teats x 6 (slow flow for younger babies, swithing to faster flow as they get older)
- Bottle and teat brus
- Formula milk
- Steriliser (steam, cold water or microwave)
- Muslin squares 6 to12
- Newborn bibs x 5
- Travel milk powder container
Might be useful
- Dishwasher basket for accessories
- Soothers
- Bottle warmer
- Bottle travel bag
- Small cartons of ready-made milk
- Disposable or self-sterillising bottles
